The Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie (CSI) is a renowned French institution dedicated to promoting scientific and technical culture. Its mission is to make scientific and technical knowledge accessible to a broad audience, with a particular focus on children and adolescents. As the most visited science museum in Europe, CSI boasts a range of spaces and services, including the Library of Science and Industry, which is organized into three key sectors: general public, children and the history of science.
The need for a video solution that can be used by the general public
The Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie, Europe’s leading science museum, is celebrated for its initiatives in science communication, fostering critical thinking and ensuring science is accessible to everyone. As part of its new development project, the museum sought to incorporate a video recording studio that would enable visitors to independently record and create content. They needed a solution that is/has:
- An easy-to-use tool
- Accessible to the general public
- Including features adapted to different ages and levels of technological literacy
The teams were looking for a device that would enable any visitor — be it a young student, an adult or even a child — to explore video without any help. The simplicity and user-friendliness of Rapidmooc made it the perfect solution.
Rapidmooc, a multi-purpose solution
Since the installation of the Rapidmooc studio in August 2023, the teams at the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie have leveraged its features for two purposes: internal communication and providing autonomous access for visitors.
Internally, the studio has enabled the creation of teaser videos, team presentations and the use of the green screen for immersive productions, particularly during meetings with science fiction themes.
The quick subtitling feature is particularly appreciated for improving accessibility, allowing an hearing-impaired employee to use the device comfortably.
For the public, the tool has been featured in various events, such as the Science Festival, where visitors had the chance to create immersive videos and explore artificial intelligence (AI) features through quizzes and storytelling sessions. These events draw a diverse audience, including school groups and families, providing an accessible way to engage with scientific and medical topics.
"The option to redo videos endlessly encourages self-correction: this self-assessment fosters immediate improvement while boosting confidence."

Multiple benefits
- Accessibility and inclusion: The subtitling feature and user-friendly design make the tool accessible to people of all ages and technical abilities, enabling them to use it independently.
- Building self-confidence: The ability to record multiple takes encourages self-assessment and immediate improvement. This playful approach was highlighted during the "Nuits de la lecture," where children, wearing masks, read passages from books against fairytale backgrounds, helping them build confidence in public reading.
- Valuing AI and digital education: During the Fête de la Science, the studio was used to present AI in an engaging way through storytelling activities and interactive quizzes. This approach helped young people demystify the technology while sparking their creativity.
- Flexibility: The Cité's teams continually tailor the studio's use to suit different events, enabling a wide range of applications, from photo booth sessions for families to educational recordings with students.
Promising projects: the Grand Oral and beyond
Looking ahead, the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie plans to expand its initiatives with the Rapidmooc studio. A key objective is to organize workshops to help high school students prepare for the Grand Oral of the baccalaureate, a pivotal milestone in their academic journey.
The Rapidmooc studio provides students with a stimulating training environment to practice speaking in front of the camera. Features like the green screen enable creative staging, while the ability to redo recordings encourages learning through trial and error.
Finally, the Cité plans to establish this recording space as a permanent feature for future scientific communication projects, aiming to raise awareness among a broad audience about the challenges of research and innovation. Rapidmooc continues to win over both teams and the public with its accessibility and intuitive design, making it a valuable asset for science popularization initiatives.
